Remembering Maurice & Penny
December 2019 and July 2020

Maurice King, co-founder and publisher of Dialogue, passed on at the age of 92?, on the morning of 2 December 2019. His beloved Penny joined him on July 6th, 2020; she was 17.

PHOTO: Maurice and Penny at their home in Nanaimo, B.C.

Vol. 33, No.2, Winter 2019-20, features a tribute to Maurice.
Read or download the digital Winter edition here

Maurice leaves many legacies from his life lived to the full, and he is greatly missed by all who knew him.  Maurice enjoyed reminiscing about the adventures of his youth and with his family and in his multiple careers – some of which you will hear about in the pages that follow. Maurice’s favourite poem, which came to him at a very young age, was:
“Words that are spoken are easily said,
Words that are written are easily read,
But words engraved upon your heart
                       Never leave you, never part.”

And Maurice had much love and many personal connections engraved upon his heart – which many people have recalled in their memories of him, in the Winter issue, Vol. 33-3, dedicated to his memory.

It was Maurice’s indomitable will that has allowed all of his ventures, throughout his life, to succeed. Gabriel Communications, the not-for-profit that Maurice created, will continue as the publisher of Dialogue – and Maurice’s invocation to us all is to rely upon our own resolve (and whatever help we can give) to ensure that his legacy of “Dialogue” continues well into the future.

Thank You for continuing to be part of this venture of dedicated writers, artists and readers who are pursuing your dreams of a better world.

and blatant misinformation, we need
the knowledge, insight and intuition needed

We dedicate this website to the deepening of our
understanding of the true role and potential of humanity
to create the world we want to live in.

Through words, images and inspired actions, Dialogue seeks:
reveal the rapacious systems and schemes working against
the interests of people and all living things on Earth; while
also supporting and empowering,
in print, online and in our
, the 'imaginal cells' of our individual lives, to help us
create and nurture the better world that we know is possible

This website is being developed for the readers and writers of Dialogue magazine – and for all who are seeking new perspectives and deeper
understanding about what is going on in our world… in order to put
their/our daily lives on a path that will help create a healthy and
harmonious future for our planet.  We envision – and are working to
create! – an interactive website that will be updated frequently with
posts from the readers/writers and new visitors to our web forum,
in the form of: letters, essays, cartoons, poetry, photos, art, alerts,
events, blogs, comments, recommended reading (books, links &
websites), videos ~ and any other creative format you dream up!

Are you getting the knowledge & insights you need in order to understand what is happening in the world today?

  • Do you sometimes wonder if the mainstream media is giving you the whole (or true) story?
  • Do you believe you have a right to hear what is really going on – in Ottawa, the provinces and globally – and how it affects (or will affect) all of us in our local communities?
  • Do you ever wonder if the so-called 'opinion polls' actually reflect what ordinary people are thinking?
  • Do you want to hear what Canadians and others are really thinking and saying?

If you answered ‘YES’ to any of the above, then you will want to read Dialogue Magazineon line and in print – the home of “Canada’s Independent Voices” since 1987!

Read, write, have your say… in Canada’s unique, national, non-profit, volunteer-created magazine!

Our goal is for this website to provide an interactive resource to support and enhance the communication and empowerment mission of Dialogue magazine.

There are many inspiring and informative sites on the Internet and our goal is to develop our web location as a home that brings together all the perspectives that 'truth-seeking troublemakers'* and creative activists might need or want to know – or want others to know - ideas that are important for moving us in the directions we want to go!

Through the original articles and referenced material and links on the site, we hope to encourage: critical thinking, deep understanding, ‘radical imagination,’ heart-centered consciousness, creative activism and effective local strategies ~ and a sense of humour to see us through difficult times!

If you have any ideas and suggestions for special features (and links to other sites) that you would like to see included here, please email me (Janet) at: dialogue@dialogue.ca

If you are a Dialogue columnist or writer, please email a biographical note and photo or favourite image, so we can build the page that will feature your contributions. Thanks!

While under development, this website is being hosted as - and the original site, www.dialogue.ca, now links to this site. Thank you for your patience – and even more, for your help – while we build and develop a new interactive website for Dialogue magazineWe hope you will join us in this exciting adventure by forwarding your suggestions, input or images.

Thank you, Janet

George Orwell

"The civilized have created the wretched, quite coldly and deliberately, and do not intend to change the status quo; are responsible for their slaughter and enslavement; rain down bombs on defenseless children whenever and wherever they decide that their "vital interests" are menaced, and think nothing of torturing a man to death: these people are not to be taken seriously when they speak of the 'sanctity' of human life, or the 'conscience' of the civilized world." - James Baldwin, Source: page 489 of COLLECTED ESSAYS (1998), from chapter one of "The Devil Finds Work" (orig. pub. 1976)

"Since world war two we've managed to create history's first truly global empire. This has been done by the corporatocracy, which are a few men and women who run our major corporations and in doing so also run the U.S. government and many other governments around the world." - John Perkins, 2005, author of the book titled 'Confessions of and Economic Hit Man'

In the struggle of Good against Evil, it's always the people who get killed. - Eduardo Galeano

"It's not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something. May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of personkind, bringing hope to the lost and love to the lonely." - Leo Buscaglia, author and university professor (1924-1998)
